Pre-Mongmong festival at Kiphire

Kipongya ward Kiphire today celebrated pre-Mongmong at their colony with former PS to parliamentary secretary Torechu, T.Yangseo Sangtam as the special guest.
Yangseo Sangtam in his speech said that Mongmong festival was the time of thanks giving to God inorder to invoke immense blessing during harvest. He said that it was time for forgiveness amongst the villagers and neighbors and to celebrate with happiness.
The special guest said that the situation in Kiphire depended on the citizens of Kiphire, whether to live in peace or in chaos. Therefore he appealed the gathering to maintain peace in the town. While acknowledging the leaders of Kipongya ward Kiphire for their cooperation with the government, he appealed them to eradicate jealousy and hatred in the town. Special guest also highlighted the significance of the six-day celebration of Mongmong, the festival of Sangtams.
ADC Kiphire, Dr.Tinojungshi who also spoke at the programme encouraged the gathering to preserve the culture. He said that the meaning of Mongmong should also be made known to the youngster so as to revive the culture of Sangtams. He further appealed the Kipongya ward to forgive and forget and celebrate the festival with joy.
President of Eleven Ward Union Kiphire Town, Lisethrong Sangtam also spoke at the programme. GB Kiphire Town Limuze related the significance of Mongmong festival to the gathering. The programme was chaired by Thomas Kiutsamong and Hotingkiu Sangtam.
SP Kiphire Ben Longkumer also attended the pre-Mongmong programme. It may be mentioned that Sangtam’s Mongmong festival is celebrated every year in the first week of September from 1 to 6.
