Stressing that having power was always accompanied by responsibilities, Mhalo Humtsoe, SDO (C), Dhansiripar block addressed newly elected women village council members and women leaders of various villages under her administrative block today at Dhansiripar village community hall.
Humtsoe, in reiterating the importance of being a Village Council Member (VCM), highlighted instances of improvement in overall governance across villages and towns in India where women were actively involved in the Panchayats and local decision making bodies.
Stating that women representation across the world decision making is only about 21.1%, Humtsoe expressed the need for more representation and reservation for women in key decision making bodies.
Humtsoe expressed optimism about the Nagaland government recently passing ordinance of 33% reservation for women in ULBs.
Humtsoe was addressing the women VCMs as a resource person during an orientation program for women VCMs and women leaders in Dhansiripar Block organized by Prodigals’ Home under the aegis of TEAR Australia.
Earlier, introductory address of the program was delivered by K. Ela, director of Prodigals’ Home. Incidentally, this year’s election for VCMs in Dhansiripar block recorded the highest number of women being elected into the village councils which had always been male dominated.
