Department of Sericulture, Kohima in collaboration with Research Extension Centre, Central Silk Board, Dimapur organised a “Skill Upgradation Training Programme” for stakeholders of sericulture in “Ericulture Package of Practices”, in various blocks of Kohima district from February 8 to March 23.
A press release by the department reported that the training was held under IESDP-NERTPS (2018) with an aim to empower women and create sustainable livelihood through ericulture.
Altogether, 500 farmers took part in the training which was completed in ten batches.
The release said that the training was conducted through power point presentations and on-field demonstrations using new and improvised technologies.
The various topics that were taught included Eri host plants and their cultivation, eri silkworm rearing, diseases and pests management of silkworm and host plants, economics and by-products of ericulture and construction of ideal rearing houses for the silkworms.
The resource persons for the training were sericulture supervisor, Atenjemba Imchen; extension officer, Keneizeto Khro; extension agent, Henwalo Lorin; sericulture supervisor, Thepfurokou and assistant sericulture officer and training co-ordinator, Yingsungbeni Ngully.
