A condolence note issued by NPF central headquarters Kohima, press bureau stated that both were general secretaries at the NPF central office and their deaths had come as a huge blow to the party. It described late Chikroveyi Venyo (fondly called CV by his friends) as a born leader who showed astute leadership qualities since his college days. He rose to prominence and caught the attention of political circles in the region during his tenure as the president of the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) during 1987-89. He was honest, upright and blessed with uncanny oratorical skills, and minced no words against what he perceived were wrong doings by politicians and bureaucrats alike, the note said. The party also stated that late BP Hanghu Konyak’s contributions to the NPF party were most remarkable and pronounced when he made the supreme sacrifice of renouncing membership of his erstwhile national political party and supported the NPF candidate in 2003 at Aboi Assembly Constituency. It also said that Hanghu was fearless in his beliefs and was ever-ready to take on the might of the powerful to ensure that truth and justice prevailed in the society. His absence shall be sorely missed, it added.
The party extended its heartfelt condolences to the grieving family members of both the leaders and prayed to the Almighty to grant solace and comfort to all their near and dear ones. It further prayed the departed souls to rest in eternal peace.
