In commemoration of 25 years since recognition of Zhadima Village and getting a new name, villagers celebrated the occasion with much pomp and traditional gaiety on Monday. The village name was changed from Keruma to Zhadima and it got its recognition from the government in 1993. It was unveiled by the then PWD minister Neiphiu Rio, now the chief minister of Nagaland.
Zhadima village was established in 1528 AD (approximately), according to the book on history of Zhadima village that was brought out to mark the occasion.
Ex-VDB secretary, Peter Kuotsu, in his address said the village had already celebrated 75 years of Christianity including the golden jubilee of the students’ union and village youth and sports association. Kuotsu said the village registered significant progress on many fronts in the 25 years.
He listed the facilities and infrastructure the village had like a standard badminton stadium, sports complex with standard playground, Govt. High School, Primary Health Centre, 220 KV power station etc. He maintained that developmental activities had been possible because of the complete sense of unanimity among the villagers and he was optimistic that the village would continue to shine as long as unity and a congenial atmosphere prevaild. Kuotsu said the village had produced an international football player in the person of Roko Angami.
Also after highlighting some developmental packages of the past 25 years, vice president Angami Public Organization, K.T. Vilie Theiinuo said “We need to do a lot more”. He stressed on the need to focus on human resource development alongside infrastructural development and economic growth.
On the history of Zhadima village, chairman History Committee and president Northern Angami Public Organization, Neiyalie Pfiisenuo said Zhadima village maintained a very conservative system of administration and clanism does not prevail in the village organization. He said that the village’s day to day administration was controlled by village council.
Pronouncing elderly blessings, Zhadima head GB, Mezhiikieo prayed that the denizens of Zhadima stay healthy, wealthy and emerge victorious on all fronts.
The function was chaired by Zhadima village council chairman, Kesovilhou Chiipuo while a welcome address was delivered by Zhadima village VDB secretary Roko Angami. Rev. Dr. T. R. Angami prayed over the celebration while a vote of thanks was proposed by GB, Kedilezo M. Keditsu. A cultural extravaganza and community feast also marked the occasion.
Zhadima village is 18 kilometres away from the state capital Kohima. The total number of households stands at 809 presently with a population of 5498.
The village has 282 government servants and 777 students as per 2016 records. With eight khels, important landmarks in the village include a 10th NAP (IR) battalion headquarter and Ave Maria Prayer Retreat Centre.
