A one-day vaccination camp cum awareness programme was conducted by Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Department under Tseminyu sub-division on April 5 at Sendenyu, Thongsunyu & Lotsuphen Villages. In the camp, farmers were sensitized on potential Zoonotic diseases that may be contracted from animals via direct contact (bites, scratch, saliva etc.), vector borne or through food sources (meat, milk, egg etc.) The farmers were also educated on the scope of livestock farming in the state and how we have to import meat from other states due to the shortage of locally produced meat. About 50 people participated in the training programme who included village council members, GBs, church leaders and progressive farmers and a few educated unemployed youth interested in beginning livestock farming. Altogether 215 animals (SF=151, ARV=64) were vaccinated against swine fever for pigs, and rabies for dogs. Medication for de-worming, vitamins and minerals were also distributed free of cost among the farmers.
