Eastern Nagaland College Students’ Union (ENCSU) has expressed disappointment over the outcome of the meeting held with the chief secretary at his conference hall on August 19, 2016, saying the government representatives could not respond positively to its demands.
In a press release, ENCSU chairman, Longre Chang, and joint secretary, Nokchem Angth, said the officials present at the meeting instead of solving the issue again began to interpret the MCI rules, which, the signatories said, they had enough of deliberation in the past meetings.
The union contended that since Nagaland conducted its own NSEE exam as per direction of SC/MCI “we are not to follow MCI rules but state rules.” Hence, it said there was no point of bringing MCI rules in state level exam.
ENCSU said the state NSEE exams and 15% reservation for backward tribe was purely a state matter and expressed hope that since the case has been referred to state cabinet the outcome would be positive. It requested the cabinet to act wisely so the deprived people would get their due share without much delay.
ENCSU said it would decide phase-II agitation based on the outcome of cabinet meeting scheduled on August 20, 2016.
Meanwhile, the union has appealed to the chief minister to call for a joint meeting as in order to clear the air of confusion about the MCI rules. Further, the union urged the government and the department to withhold counselling for 2016-17 batch until the issue was settled.
It reminded the state government and the technical department to act sincerely and wisely on its representation submitted to chief minister on August12, 2016 through principal secretary to CM.
