CASU condemns raid by AR

Coco Area Students’ Union (CASU) has condemned the raid carried out by troops of Assam Rifles (AR) at the residence of president Atoizu Range Students’ Union (ARSU), Shunato Chophy on August 13 around 3 a.m.
In a condemnation note, president CSAU, Vihuka H, and general secretary, Zhekito Shohe, alleged that the AR troops raided the house even after the victim identified himself as a student leader and searched the house for more than an hour without any result.
Terming the raid as an “act of high-handedness,” the union stated that such “unwarranted act of security forces has reflected its insensitivity and a great insult to the student leader whose edifying leadership qualities and moral standing in the society is unquestionable.”
“The action of AR who claims to be ‘friends of the hill people’ was highly condemnable and intolerable,” it stated. In this regard, CASU urged the AR to first verify its information/report clearly before taking any steps so that no innocent citizen were subjected to undue harassment in the future.
