
Reiterating that law and order situation in the state continued to remain peaceful, Nagaland home minister, Y. Patton Monday attributed the success to civil society organizations for rendering untiring efforts and cooperation to the state government.
Patton, who was addressing the 70th Independence Day celebration at multi-disciplinary outdoors sports complex, Peren, also asserted that overall situation in Tuensang and Kiphire had also returned to normalcy. He thanked the civil society organizations including ENPO, ENSF, ENWO, ENLU, Churches and the mediators appointed by the government for their cooperation.
Both the towns witnessed spurt in violence in the aftermath of the cold blooded killing of husband and wife by some armed miscreants on February 6, this year near Yayi Bridge under Shamator sub-division.
In the aftermath of the violence, home minister reviewed the security situation and emphasised the steps needed to be taken to increase security in sensitive places.
On the modernisation of police, Patton pointed out that construction of office of the commissioner of police, Dimapur and IGP (Int.) Kohima, has been taken up during 2016-17. Under this, 23 CCTV cameras in New Market area had also been installed.
In order to check crime against women, state government has also decided to upgrade the Women’s Cell at Dimpaur and Kohima to full-fledged Women police station. Remaining districts will also be covered shortly, he said.

To streamline the delivery of justice, several initiatives have been taken by the state government, Patton added.
Home minister also heaped praise on the Naga youths for their enthusiasm to join the armed forces and exemplary courage in defending the country.
He pointed out that during the army recruitment rally at Kohima this year, 116 youths from Nagaland were selected to serve the country.
Earlier, home minister took the salute from six parade contingents- DEF Peren, 9th IR Bn, 18th Assam Rifles, Sainik School Punglwa, Peren Government College and All Saints Higher Secondary School Peren.
