Naga Business Association Kohima (NBAK) held its first general meeting on August 13, at APO hall Kohima. NBAK president Katsükhrie Kesiezie in his keynote address to the hundreds of genuine local businessmen and entrepreneurs highlighted that NBAK was formed by some likeminded genuine Naga businessmen with a view to safeguard and uplift the local businessmen and entrepreneurs.
He said that “we” local people must venture out in the business field as it is one of the only fields where Nagas could attain self sufficiency and be self reliant.
The president said that the association was a purely non profit organisation and formed not to oppose against any individual, group or community but to support each other for the welfare of the Naga businessmen and entrepreneurs.
Among others senior and prominent businessmen Kesao Kesiezie and Ketu Angami while speaking on the occasion have appreciated the NBAK platform to encourage and support the local businessmen.
During the discussion hour, the members deliberated at length on taxation. The members urged the Naga Political Groups to sincerely support the genuine Naga businessmen stating that the present Naga businessmen are first generation in the business field. Therefore, they should encourage the upcoming Naga businessmen for the prosperity of the Naga society.
The members raised that many business establishment though owned and run by the non locals were registered in the local name, whereby state government was losing the revenue and said that such trend must be discouraged and abolished.
The meeting also strongly voiced against the motive of the Kohima Municipal Council on the illegal tender permits to some individual and for which the market price of essential commodities are being monopolised and urged the KMC to sincerely look upon all the illegal permits.
The meeting also welcomed any genuine Naga businessmen for the membership in the association, however on condition that it should be owned only by the genuine Naga people. The meeting was chaired by NBAK secretary, Atou Kapfo, the moderator of the discussion was led by NBAK vice president, Nitoshe Sheqi while vote of thanks was pronounced by the NBAK joint secretary Jean Metha.
