
Poumai Naotoumai Me Kohima (PNMK) women organization observed its 9th raising day cum seminar under the theme “women position in the present society” held at Poumai Baptist church Kohima with advocate Ashipri Zho as the resource person on Saturday.
Zho in his speech said “our” Naga society was in the transitional period where many old practices and beliefs were being discarded with modern lifestyle. He said many taboos and restrictions for the women in the society start vanishing with the embrace of Christianity. Zho said women have liberty to develop their skills and talents in this present society where nobody was stopping them and he urged them to develop to its fullest.
The resource person highlighted the rights given to the women by the constitution of India without any discrimination to every person. He encouraged the women folk to know their rights and provision given to them under the law. However, he said knowing the right or the provision given under the constitution of India should not encourage one to misuse the right but be submissive to their husband according to the bible as a Christian wife or mother.
He challenged the women folk to be dutiful and know thyself. Zho reminded the women that they must be submissive to their husbands no matter what status or qualification their husbands had.
The programme was chaired by Veronica representative PNMK, invocation prayer pronounced by Sangla ex-president PNMK, special songs were presented by Baptist women society, catholic women society and revival women society, Lucy w/chairperson MCRCK prayed over the free will donation and closing prayer tendered by Mate Hrani PNMK. Hundreds of women folk, Poumai Naga union Kohima officials, Poumai Naga Tsüdoumai me Kohima officials, church leaders and others attended the programme.
