
One-day farmers training on production technology of pulses and coarse cereals was organized by department of agriculture, Tuensang, at Tuensang village C/khel.
Delivering the keynote address District Agriculture Officer (DAO), L.Butang highlighted about the present scenario and market demands of pulses and coarse cereals. Besides, he urged the farmers to be broad minded in practicing agriculture keeping in mind for capturing local market instead of growing for own consumption.
At the technical session, SMS Menungchetba spoke on the operational guidelines on implementation of mission organic value chain development for NER emphasizing on selection of organic cluster, soil sample collection, inspection procedure under internal control system etc.
Meanwhile, Agri. officer, Chingmak spoke on post harvest technology and storage pest management in regard to pest life cycle, damage symptom and various management and precautionary steps to be taken for pest control from harvesting, handling, storage etc.
Speaking on the topic on economic importance and scope of pluses production, AI M.Chollen appraised the farmers about the potentials of growing pluses crop in the region and urged the farmers for tapping the potentials for generating better income and net return while DAO L.Butang spoke on the topic prospects and importance of coarse cereals cultivation briefing its economic importance, climate resilient, food security and market demand.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by SMS Menungchetba and later vote of thanks was delivered by AFA, Tonchingsangla.
Altogether 50 farmers along with department officials attended the training programme. Kholar seeds were distributed to the farmers’ beneficiaries after the programme.
