The Little Kingdom Academy (LKA) organized “free finger painting workshop,” learning through colours for children aged 2-5 years (play-group till (upper kindergarten) KG –II) on Thursday at The Little Kingdom Academy, Khermahal police point.
During the workshop, resource person, Mhonchumi Lotha from Singapore explained that finger painting was an ideal activity which appealed to people of all age. She said that finger painting was fun, creative and helped to develop not only an individual’s physical skills but also the social skills.
She mentioned that finger painting was very important for younger ones to explore and investigate materials and texture without the pressure of producing an end result/product.
For little ones just playing with finger paint, enjoying the feel or texture of it and allowing them to create interesting designs was considered to be highly therapeutic, said Mhonchumi.
She elaborated that with the ability to master a new skill and gaining some personal milestone, a child’s self esteem could be enhanced. For older children, Mhonchumi said that with finger painting as an alternate medium to work with they could try out varying ways to illustrate the world around them from flowers, butterflies to numbers and alphabets.
She pointed out that finger painting was one of the many core activities used for planning a balanced education routine that integrated play and real life learning.
She believed that Little Kingdom Academy would not only provide preschool education but go beyond just basic text book learning, by focusing and addressing the child’s development in social, emotional, physical, intellectual and language aspect.
She also mentioned that Little Kingdom Academy, pre-schoolers would be provided with stable environment and would have the opportunity to learn how to work and play with each other, develop large and small muscle dexterity, receive appropriate stimulation for creative mental development and learn how to deal acceptably with emotions.
During the workshop tiny tots were taught how to finger paint with homemade paints and other activities.
It may be noted that The Little Kingdom Academy provides balanced curriculum, using both Montessori and play way method.
The academy is well planned with stimulating and interesting activities using IQ toys and have nutritious, well balanced meal plan of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian.
