Three-day training programme on “scientific piggery production” was organized by State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Nagaland from July 26-28, at SAMETI, Medziphema.
The training aimed at preparing ATMA functionaries from all districts with knowledge about piggery production and management for assisting the farming community in achieving sustainable livelihood through piggery farming.
Resource persons for the training program, KVK Dimapur, SMS (animal science) Dr. Ebibeni Ngullie delivered a detailed theoretical and practical sessions on “significance of scientific management of piggery”, “housing management”, “breeding management”, “care of pregnant sows and piglets”, “importance of artificial insemination in pig”, “disease management”, “feeding management” and “sanitary measures”.
The valedictory function was chaired by SAMETI, DPD Vikaho Chophi, while feedback from the trainees was given by Dr. Khriengunuo Mepfhuo and BTM, Kohima Lanuzulu Pongener, and ATM Dimapur, respectively.
Meanwhile, KVK, SMS (soil science) Dr. Ebibeni Ngullie in her valedictory address stressed that 60% of our state’s pork is imported and there was immense scope for pig rearing to not only meet the demand of pork but also as an employment generating enterprise. Later, vote of thanks was delivered by SAMETI, DPD Dr. Ithika C. Swu.
