Workshop on mitigation of human-wildlife conflict in Mon

Mon Forest Division in collaboration with the Fingerprint and Castle Group conducted a workshop on Human-Wildlife Conflict (HWC) mitigation on July 30 at Mon.  Speaking at the programme as chief guest, Conservator of Forests (NTC), Y.M Jami provided valuable inputs on various dimensions of mitigating the HWC.
Jami gave various examples of such efforts being practiced both nationally and globally. He also stressed on the need for involvement of the communities to minimize such conflicts in the future so as to protect & conserve “our” precious wildlife. Hongba from Fingerprint presented the various short term and long term effects of decreasing wildlife and he also urged the different stakeholders to take the necessary steps in this regard. 
The workshop was focused on how to minimize the human wildlife conflict.
 The DFO, Mon division, who chaired the programme, also highlighted the problems related to HWC in the district.  He opined that Forest department, district administration, agri and allied departments and the villagers should work together to minimize the HWC as there was urgent need to protect the wildlife from any kind of retaliatory killings plus there should be fast compensatory  mechanism, he added.
Khelen Samom IFS, Suman Sivachar IFS, Prabhat Kumar IFS and representatives from the KU, KNSK, district administration and village council members from the affected villages also participated in the workshop.
