Excise Kohima personnel manning Peducha Excise check gateon August 1 has seized 190 kgs of contraband ganja and Rs. One lakh from one person identified as T.D. George (29) son of Thaipei Daile of Koide Makha, Maram, Senapati, Manipur.
According to a press release by Superintendent of Excise Kohima, VikikheAomi the Excise personnel on seeing a suspicious vehicle (NL 06C 0024) approaching the check gate signalled the vehicle to halt. However, the vehicle fled and after a hot chase, it was intercepted from about 2 kms from the check gate.
Excise personnel on checking the vehicle recovered ganja concealed in the back and passenger seat. The apprehended person also tried to bribe the Excise personnel with Rs. One lakh, stated Excise Kohima.
During initial interrogation, the apprehended person divulged that he was to deliver the consignment to some unknown persons at a petrol pump in Dimapur. He was assured Rs. 20,000 as commission after delivery.
The seizure was made under the command of assistant inspector of Excise (AIE) Vipral, head constable Yanchio and constables Nganvang, Vekuto, Tsapise, Chingmak, Ngabu, Zaselatuo, Neizokieo and Nyimtsemo.
