In an effort to ease traffic congestion and enable smooth movement of traffic in the Kohima town, the deputy commissioner (DC) Kohima, Rajesh Soundararajan, Wednesday issued traffic restrictions that have come into force with immediate effect.
As per the new traffic regulations, the NHAK-Tinpatti bypass road has been made one-way with NHAK as entry point and Census/Tinpatti as exit point. DC stated that only light vehicles would be allowed in that stretch, adding movement of heavy vehicles was strictly prohibited.
Naga Bazaar-Razhu point junction: No entry or exit of vehicles would be permitted through Naga Bazaar and Razhu point junction. Further, no entry of vehicle towards NHAK would be allowed at Tinpatti-Census junction.
In this regard, all the commuters and responsible colony residents have been requested to take note of the new traffic regulations and comply with it accordingly.
Meanwhile, a team of government officials led by DC Kohima, who was also the chairman of Kohima District Disaster Management Authority (KDDMA), inspected the site near Soul Harvest Church Wednesday afternoon to take stock of the situation where construction of retaining wall was on.
DC Kohima said that PWD (R&B) was doing its best to restore the road at the earliest for the convenience of the commuters. In this regard, he requested the commuters to take note of the same and use other alternative road.
DC also contributed immediate relief fund of Rs. 5000 from the KDDM fund for refreshment of volunteers. He also informed that if necessary the authority was ready to provide temporary makeshift for the residents of the affected area.
PWD executive engineer, Hokato Sema, said the stretch of road affected was around 100ft in length and 35feet in height and could take a month to complete the construction.
The executive engineer, however, said that retaining wall and other works would be completed at the earliest keeping in mind the difficulties faced the by commuters.
During his visit, DC also had a discussion with the colony GB and residents.
In the morning, minister for PWD (R&B), Tongpang Ozukum, also visited the affected site.
