Action Committee for restoration of water supply in Peren town has demanded that state government constitute Special Investigation Team (SIT) before the expiry of its 15-day ultimatum that was earlier submitted to the government. In a press release, committee secretary, Azeu Namcyn Hau said it agreed with the clarification of chief engineer PHED, K. Kruse, but wanted to know what the department has done on the issue for the last 40 years, as the pipelines were installed in the 1970s. The committee also reminded that when public of Peren town, undertook spot verification to Tesangki river from the source till the delivery point they saw that there was “more than enough water to supply the entire town” which was in “contradiction to the excuses of the officials”. They therefore, asked the department to admit its negligence.
The committee also cautioned the executive engineer to refrain from making unnecessary statement that may jeopardise the already aggravated situation otherwise.
They also warned that chief engineer would be held responsible incase of any uprising or backlash arising out of his irresponsible statement.
