Department of Fishery, Nagaland organized felicitation programme for Fisheries, Evaluation, Economics & Statistics advisor, L. Khumo Khiamniugan at conference hall Hotel Vivor, Kohima on Tuesday.
Advisor in his address based on People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) government slogan “Change is coming,” said the department also should make positive change. He stressed on the need to go for physical verification of the various projects and undertakings by the department. He maintained that change would happen through the effective implementation of the various projects on the ground.
He said although fishery department was a small department, it had a big role to play in boosting the rural economy through fishery activities. He expressed happiness that the department has been reaching the grassroots level across the state.
Khumo called upon the officers to continue to render best services and live up to the expectation of the people. He assured that he would put his best effort to get through the cadre review of the fisheries department and also to pursue for changing the nomenclature of the department into department of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources, as expressed by the department director. Referring to the present strength of 310 manpower of the department, he assured to take up the matter with the government for increasing the manpower.
Secretary of Fisheries, Mhabemo Yanthan in his address stressed the need to have a department target to achieve its goal. He challenged the department staff and officers to make fish self sufficiency in the state, as at present the department could produce only 30% requirement in the state and 70% import from others. He said by putting more effort department can at least strengthen the rural economy and uplift the society.
President Nagaland Fisheries Technical Association, Dr. Vimezo Kire and registrar R. Wati Imchen also addressed the gathering.
Programme was chaired by director of Fisheries, Kevisa Kense, invocation prayer said by Mary Kithan senior typist, while vote of thanks was proposed by deputy director of fisheries Neitho–o Kuotsu.
