DMC initiates alternate means to dispose garbage

As a temporary measure to tackle the disposal of the ever growing garbage in Dimapur city, Dimapur Municipal Council has begun to dig three large pits at the waste disposal ground to hold fresh garbage.
The pits are expected to hold garbage for the next six months giving the municipal council time to think of some permanent measures to manage tons of waste that is being generated daily. Interacting with media persons, DMC administrator, Atokhe Aye said that the council was in the process of starting a recycling plant at the site. The solid waste management project would help in controlling pollution in the area and the city, he said.
DMC has also begun constructing walls at the dumping site to prevent garbage from being scattered of disposed garbage and to avoid contamination. DMC is also constructing two drainages at Naga colony and United North Block. The council has also taken the task of black-topping two roads measuring approximately 1500 ft and 1300 ft at Sunrise colony and Jasokie colony respectively.
