MCCI appeals traders to pay sanitation tax

Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce and Industries (MCCI) has appealed all traders to pay the enhanced tax on annual Trade Permit and Sanitation without any “revulsion”, as it was done in the best interest by respecting Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC’s) assurance that there should be no further enhancement of taxes for another three years (March 2017 to March 2020). On Thursday, MCCI officials and MMC authority at a marathon meeting decided that there should be no further enhancement of taxes for three years as appealed by the latter.
In a press release, MCCI vice president, Tsukti Longkumer and information secretary, Limalenden Longkumer said that decision to enhance MMC’s proposal annual Trade Permit and Sanitation tax by Rs. 10 each per month was deliberated at the general meeting on March 29.  Further on March 30, the MCCI executives after deliberating on the pros and cons, unanimously decided to agree in favour of MMC’s proposal. MCCI has also appealed to MMC not to propose any further enhancement for another three consecutive financial years.  Stating that the tax collected would be utilized for solid waste management and garbage disposal in keeping the town clean.
