KVK programme held at Phek

Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Phek organized an awareness programme cum training programme on protection of plant varieties and farmers’ right was held at oasis resource Centre on March 29 at Sekruzu, Phek, to recognize and to protect the rights of the farmers in respect of their contributions made at any time in conserving, improving and making available plant genetic resources for the development of new plant varieties.  Speaking on this occasion district  agriculture officer Hewoto Sema (DAO) Phek, Sema briefed the farmers about the traditional agricultural practices of Phek and the prospects of growth in the field of agriculture, conservation of its rich bio-diversity, to register native varieties of pulses, cereals and other horticultural crops, and on the importance of integrated farming system for sustainable production in the event of climate change. He also spoke on the burning of the jungles which destroyed the ecological balance.
Others who spoke on the programme were EAC Sekruzu Chumbenthung Murry, Programme Coordinator, KVK-Phek Dr. RK Singh, and  SMS KVK Phek Dr. Debojyoti Borkotoky. 
An exhibition of local plant varieties was also organised during the programme, where about 26 farmers from 6 villages namely; Phugii, Zulhami, Ruzhazu, Khutsa, Thiirtsusii and Sekruzu brought their exhibits and displayed the uniqueness of the varieties.
