ACAUT reiterates stand for clean electoral roll

ACAUT’s calculation says, ‘true total voter’ not more than 7 lakhs
Reiterating its support to the NBCC’s Clean Election Campaign, ACAUT Nagaland has expressed its total commitment towards deletion of all bogus and multiple entries of names in the state electoral roll.
In a press note, ACAUT media cell said according to the State Chief Electoral Officer, the total number of voters had been reduced by almost 2 lakhs to 11, 74,633 lakhs as of 2015, reportedly making Nagaland the only state in India to have negative electoral growth rate. As per their calculation, ACAUT said the true total voter list of Nagaland could not be more than 7 lakhs.
ACAUT felt that if the State Election Commission (SEC) carries out electoral revision to its logical conclusion, not less than 4 lakhs names would still be deleted in the state. “It is a stupendous exercise calling for all sections of society to co-operate with special emphasis on the Churches to give their correct membership figures to the SEC since the Churches are the true repository of correct Naga population”, it said.  ACAUT in this regard requested SEC not to half-heartedly implement directives of ECI, but opined that Nagaland should be a pilot project for the ECI to formulate its clean electoral agenda.
While stating that inflated electoral roll was the root cause of all corruption in the state, ACAUT appealed to pastors of all the Churches to start a campaign to delete bogus and multiple entries of names in their respective villages in the true Christian spirit. It said a corrupted e-roll would only beget corrupt leaders, for which ACAUT said pastors should exercise enormous moral authority at their disposal and ensure success of Clean Election Campaign.
