District level orientation for the teachers’ coordinator was conducted at North Eastern Institute for Social Science, research hall for sixteen teachers of seven schools in Dimapur by Peace Channel on March 19.
While addressing the teachers as resource person, rector of Don Bosco Hr. Sec. School Dimapur, Rev. Father C. T. Varghese SDB, pointed out that today society “needs educators not teachers.”
He further elaborated that effectiveness in teaching came only when there was innovation and creativity. He encouraged the participants to manage their class which was actually “a student’s centre” to captivate the young minds.” The strength of the teacher lies not in the power to control and maintain silence in the class but in being able to inculcate the values of sympathy, empathy, attention and love in education, added Rev. Father C. T. Varghese.
Director Peace Channel, Rev. Dr. C.P. Anto extolled the teachers present with the magic of “positive thinking”. He asserted as educator one should have positive thinking and possibility thinking. Emphasizing on classroom management with reference to peace education he said, people perception in the present scenario has changed.
He said that today people do not want information but solution and further added that educators were endowed with the responsibility to bring up the weaker one and teacher had the ability to break or make.
He guided the participants with the Peace Channel strategic approaches and methodology of peace education. The program ended with evaluation and action plan for peace education in the institutions. Project coordinator, Janthuiyang R. K John gave the concluding remark.
