Village sanitation clean day was observed at Zapami village under Phek district on March 16 as calendar events by PHED, under the “national rural drinking water and sanitation awareness week” from March 16 to 22 to accelerate in village across “India Goal Swachh Bharat (Clean India) by 2019” government of India, Ministry of Rural Development Department of Drinking Water supply.
A press release by chairman WATSAN Committee, Zapami village, Kedou Wetsah stated that March 16 has been observed as “village sanitation clean day” annually by the committee for achieving complete sanitation coverage status (NGP), first of its kind in Phek district during 2009-10 in Nagaland.
It stated that around 600 villagers took part in the mass social work on the occasion so as to harness information and knowledge for health and hygiene through sanitation. It also stated that WATSAN committee has been educating the rural people on Gandhiji’s visualized cleanliness as having three dimensions, a clean mind, a clean body, and a clean surrounding. WATSAN committee has also displayed some sign board like “keep your village clean” “keep your colony clean” “use dustbin” etc.
WATSAN committee also expressed gratitude to executive director WSSO department of PHED for providing materials and kinds to make the program a grand success, while also congratulating Kepe colony for emerging as the winner among 5(five) colony competition for “cleanest colony” of the village.
