Asserting that Rengma lands were being encroached by Assam government and forcefully occupied by the illegal infiltrators with the help of Assam government, the Rengma Hoho said it expected the state government of Nagaland to initiate move to restore the Rengma areas in Assam within the administrative control of the state as there was no dispute of administration or border within the territory.
In a press release, Rengma Hoho president Kenyuseng Tep while seeking to bring the fact of its history and territories demarcations stated that the Rengma boundary lay with Assam in the East with Golaghat and West Naogaon. The Hoho stated that most of Rengma territories lay deep inside within the above mentioned places.
Clarifying that in no way Rengma land was disputed between Assam and Nagaland, the Hoho said there were no legal documents, which proved that the Rengmas land was a disputed land between Assam and Nagaland.
“Our territories are geographically contiguous and are well defined. Our history is proved by our existence in the past and in the present which no authority can challenge,” said Rengma Hoho president.
Pointing out that Rengmas have submitted enough documents to government of Nagaland, the hoho, however, maintained that “dyslexia of the government on the issue is still a concern”, adding that they were disturbed by the attitude of the state government.
The Hoho affirmed that the land should be restored to the land owners as the land belonged to the Nagas and “we have every right to administer our own area.”
