In view of the expiry of its 15-day ultimatum on March 3, the All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) has cautioned the state government that the union would be compelled to take its own course of action in order to protect the rights and future of the students.
In the ultimatum served on February 17 to Nagaland chief minister, All Nagaland College Students’ Union president Zhoku Thuluo said that the students’ union highlighted the alleged irregularities in functioning of the Technical Education department. Later, again as a reminder, ANCSU in the memorandum submitted to chief minister on March 2 accused the government of playing delay tactics in taking action against erring officials.
The students’ union said that the additional secretary had written to them March 1 stating that the detailed examination was under submission for further consideration of authorities and requested ANCSU to review deadline.
ANCSU president Zhoku Thuluo informed this Correspondent that the issue pertains to the backlog of 2014 in selecting the Naga students in MBBS, BDS, Agri and allied subjects.
Thuluo informed that through the pressure of ANCSU, the state government appointed the State Vigilance Commission (SVC) to look into the matter, after which a report was submitted on November 5 2015. However, the government remained silent for the past three months without taking any action based on the SVC report, he said.
Thuluo said that the union had already discussed the strategies and mode of agitations to be taken up. This would be made known after March 3, he added.
