Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) has been conducting a series of activities across Nagaland for the welfare of the public.
Kohima Battalion interaction with ex-servicemen: Kohima battalion organised an interaction with ex-servicemen, Veer Naris and dependents of three (Naga Hills) battalion in Kohima on April 3. According to PRO, AR HQ 5 sector, during the interaction, the Kohima battalion commandant appreciated the efforts of the ex-servicemen for their participation. Ex-servicemen from Mao and Dimapur also graced the occasion. General grievances were also heard by the commandant to provide on the spot assistance. It provided an apt opportunity for ex-servicemen to interact with new officers and JCOs.
Phek Battalion medical camp Washello: Phek battalion conducted a free medical camp at Washello village under Phek district on April 8. The medical camp was inaugurated by the oldest lady of Washello village, Yipenthsii (93). The aim of the medical camp was to provide free medical treatment and check up for local populace of Washello and nearby villages who were devoid of requisite medical facilities. A specially constituted team under Assam Rifles medical officer examined 163 people: 62 male, 58 female and 43 children. Free medicine was provided to ailing patients. Basic knowledge on epidemic diseases including precautionary measures was also imparted.
Dimapur Battalion interaction: Dimapur battalion organized an interaction with AR and army Ex-Service Men (ESM) at Kashiram Basti, Dimapur on April 5. The aim of the interaction was to educate ESM about benefits from ARESA and other government facilities. Commandant 32 AR, Colonel V. S Pal, along with 2IC, Arun Kumar interacted with the ex-servicemen and took note of their grievances. A total of 25 AR and Army ESMs along with four Veer Naris attended the event.
Jalukie Battalion lecture: Jalukie battalion conducted a “lecture-cum-interactive session on career counselling” for students of Heraka School at Tening village under Peren district on April 5. The aim of the event was to educate students of far flung areas of Peren district on various career opportunities. Students also shared their preferences and clarified their doubts about selection of most suitable streams for future classes. Teaching staff also shared their experiences during the tea session. A total of 25 students attended the counselling programme.
Jalukie Battalion recreational activities: Jalukie battalion organized a series of educative and recreational activities at Jalukie on April 3. The day started with a “run for health” in the morning to create awareness about, and emphasize benefits of, physical fitness, followed by a medical camp jointly organized by Assam Rifles and Public Health Centre, Athibung. 158 patients were examined. HIV and malaria tests were also conducted for 74 people at the camp. A lecture-cum-discussion was also organized on AIDS and blood safety by District Integrated Counselling and Testing Centre Supervisor (DIS), Peren, Ngauzeulungbe. Educational events and recreational events like military band display, friendly volleyball match and games for children of various age groups were also organized. Villagers from neighbouring villages established stalls for food products, handloom and handicraft products assisted by Assam Rifles.
In addition, veterinary college students, led by professors, conducted a house to house service in coordination with Assam Rifles at Athibung town, Inbung, Songhluh and Old Chalkot villages wherein domestic animals were given free medical check-ups.
