Excise Kohima personnel manning Excise check gate Peducha on Tuesday morning seized 150 kgs of contraband ganja from Maurti Gypsy (NL 02 0381) and arrested one person.
According to superintendent of Excise Kohima, I Vikikhe Aomi, the arrested person indentified as one P Elia Poumai (47) son of Panü Poumai of Phuba village, Senapati, Manipur was arrested in this connection.
Aomi said the Excise personnel check gate party while conducting normal duty signalled the car to stop for checking, however, the driver ignored the signal and seeded off towards Dimapur.
After a hot pursuit, Aomi said Excise personnel intercepted the vehicle and on searching it recovered 15 packets of contraband ganja (150 kgs), neatly packed in black polythene, from the vehicle.
During preliminary interrogation, the superintendent informed that the arrested person confessed that the contraband belonged to a friend, identified as one Mesolo, and that he was paid Rs. 5000 as advance to transport the ganja to Dimapur.
Aomi informed that a prima facie case has been registered against the arrested person under NDPS Act 1985 for further investigation and the seized ganja and vehicle has been submitted to the court. He added that the case was under investigation.
The seizure was made under the command of head constable, Yimto while the duty party comprises of constables, Akho, Keyievi, Nganvang, Penshak, Neizokieo, Nyimtsemo and lady constable Tsatsula.
