
Clearing months of speculations, BJP Nagaland state unit on Monday appointed Visasolie Lhoungu as the state party president for the term commencing from 2016.
The name of Visasolie as the new party chief was announced by BJP general secretary and in-charge of Nagaland Farooq Khan.
BJP’s state election officer, Mmhonlumo Kikon also stated that the appointment was made following the unanimous lection held on Monday.
The meeting was held at Hotel Saramati, Dimapur where party functionaries and other intending candidates were also present.
According to Khan, the organizational election of the party was conducted as per the provision of Article XVII clause 2 of the party’s rule and regulations.
He expressed hope that under the new leadership, the party would achieve its goal by maintaining the spirit of oneness.
The national general secretary also disclosed that BJP state unit would be rolling out new strategies and tactics in a well-designed manner to defeat the plans of various elements working against the party in the state.
Farooq also appreciated the role of the state election officer for conducting the organizational election smoothly.
Elaborating on the electoral process of the party unit, state election officer and parliamentary secretary Mmhonlumo Kikon said that the organizational election process was held over a period of three month.
Initially, election of local area committees to the assembly constituency committees was conducted and later the district presidents, he added. From there, he said an electoral college was formed for the election of the state president, Kikon added.
The newly-elected president Visasolie thanked God, party workers and leaders for reposing faith in his leadership. He also sought cooperation from the party workers in strengthening the party starting from the grass root level.
He further assured that the party would perform better in the state assembly election with the joining of many senior politicians and top bureaucrats.
Lhoungu was also the former BJP candidate who contested the 10-Northern Angami-II A/C bye-election, the seat which was left vacant after former chief minister Neiphiu Rio got elected as Nagaland’s lone Lok Sabha MP.
Meanwhile, State election officer has convened a meeting on January 12, 10:30 am, at its party office, Dimapur.
