CYAK celebrates golden jubilee

Catholic Youth Association of Khonoma (CYAK) celebrated its golden jubilee with Bishop of Kohima, Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil as the main celebrant Saturday with many priests concelebrating the mass under the jubilee theme “The Capacity we have comes from God” (2 Cor. 3:5).
Principal Queen Mary Higher Secondary School Mokokchung, Rev. Fr. Paul Thungbemo unfurled the jubilee flag and the jubilee choir sang the jubilee anthem.
The Eucharist began with the lighting of the jubilee lamb by catechist, Krusalie Petrus Sophi while Megokolie George Pier accorded the words of welcome and delivered the jubilee greetings.
Bishop in his homily said that the youth today are also confronted with movements that promote spirituality apart from the church, sacraments and worship.
He said youth were placing more emphasis on the individual, one’s emotions and social conditions, rather than on Jesus Christ and the means He left “us” for experiencing intimately His mercy, grace and love.
Bishop said that the temptation to follow such movements and communities was on the rise, making it a culture of death which overpowers the youth of today.
However Bishop was hopeful that in the midst of all these confusions, youth are still searching for truth and meaning in life.
Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil then urged the youth to let the celebration of the golden jubilee be an occasion to spur the youth once again to real Catholic Christian life, by rediscovering the content of faith and leading a radical new life in Christ, withstanding all the worldly attractions.
The jubilee choir of Catholic Youth Association, Khonoma sang songs during the Holy Mass and also presented a special song during the felicitation programme.
Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil also released the jubilee souvenir. Keviseto Kenneth and Cakholie Christopher proposed vote of thanks in different programmes.
Mhiesinguto Mark and Medozevi Christopher were the anchors for different programmes. In the afternoon session, Rokosekho Ronald Meru was the resource person. Baptist Khriesarüü Krotho Khonoma presented the special item while Vihulie Victus translated Bishop Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil’s  homily.
