The 3-day Poumai Thounii celebration got underway at Senapati public ground with the theme “our culture is our identity” on Monday.
Soloni Pao, chairman, organizing committee while speaking on the theme of the celebration urged the gathering to preserve culture and identity. People or community without identity have lost their originality, he added.
In the introductory session, various cultural competition items like folk song, blowing of horn and others was held. Programme was led by Kh. Silas, traditional whopping by Chilivai Naga union, Thounii welcoming song was presented by students of BHSS Senapati.
The chief patron of the festival R. Haba also addressed the gathering while Thunder band and Ratsiivei me enthralled the gathering with special songs.
Earlier, PNBA executive secretary P. James said the dedicatory prayer.
On Tuesday, the inaugural session would be graced by minister for tribal affairs govt. of India Jual Oram as the chief guest.
