Changtongya Kaketsir Telongjem (CKT) held its 3rd triennial conference from December 29 to 30 at Changtongya village.
A press release by organizing committee member, Mar Longkumer stated that the main objective of the triennial event was bring together and build bond between the villagers, especially among the students.
It stated that on the opening day December 29 coincided with the its 73rd annual general meeting and the 6th CKT cultural programme was held with PA to ADC Tuli, Nokdenlemba Jamir as the chief guest. He exhorted the students not to forsake oral tradition as well as the ethos and heritage passed on from the ancestors.
The highlights of the day included each unit competing in various cultural activities. Traditional spear throwing and rice pounding competition were the main highlights of the day.
The novelty of the event saw enthusiastic responses from the gathering. The night event saw students competing in literary event such as – signing, extempore speech, poem recitation, essay and poem writing.
The programme on December 30 was held at local ground Changtongya, with director/registrar of Global Open University of Nagaland, Dr. Imotemsü Ao as the chief guest. He challenged the students to be calculative ‘risk taker” and emphasised on skill development and entrepreneurship. The main highlights of the two-day event are competition in various different categories such as cultural, literary and sports – both traditional and modern.
The highlights of the day included competition in various sporting event including both traditional and modern sports activities like tug-of-war, penalty shoot-out, obstacle race and 100 meter race. A wood cutting and wood sawing competition was held among the various sectors of the village using traditional tools.
After the two-day competition, Mokokchung unit of CKT was declared the overall champion while the CKT village unit and Kohima unit were declared the 1st and 2nd runners up respectively.
The conference concluded with the final prize distribution programme at the Changtongya Baptist Church in the evening. A short exhortation was given by vice-principal Fazl Ali College Mokokchung, S Arenla Longkumer during the event. New office bearers of CKT were also elected.
The event was attended by large number of citizens of the village from different corner of the state and outside making it a grand occasion for the villagers.
