
Longjang Senso Mungdang (LSM) and Shaki Students Union (SSU) celebrated golden jubilee, Tuesday in two separate programmes held at Longjang and Shaki respectively.
The golden jubilee celebration of Longjang Senso Mungdang concluded with much pomp and gaiety wherein children and the old alike thronged the play ground of the village, the venue of the jubilee celebration.
The highlights of the programme included presentation of various cultural items like songs and dances by various clubs and units. The programme started with the jubilee greetings by the chairman of Longjang and Khanimu villages.
Meanwhile, the presidents of Mokokchung, Dimapur, Kohima and Chumukedima units of the Senso Telongjem shared their thoughts for the LSM.
Longjang Putu Menden (village council) gave “Nülaksü” on Longjang Tsülem Lilem. The main speakers for the day were project director DRDA Mon Nukshila Jamir and additional director IPR, Limawati Longchar.
Meanwhile, in the jubilee celebration three resolutions were adopted. The resolutions are, in order to strengthen the economic status of the village in general, the following ways/measures will be adopted: Tsüden River to be marked as reserved except and as in when the needs of the council is required; to earmark an area of forest as reserved.
To widen the village and approach roads so as to facilitate better communication and improve existing roads in and around the village and a revival has been proposed for the Longjang Senso for which the village council and the Church, the Longjang Senso Mungdang office bearers and executive committee will be entrusted for the same.
SSU: Addressing the gathering during SSU golden jubilee celebration as commissioner of Police Dimapur, Liremo Lotha called upon the students to have a competitive spirit to survive in the cut-throat generation.
Liremo said that a mere degree or qualification does not guarantee anybody a prosperous life and urged the students to seize the opportunity parents have given to them.
He appealed the students to be committed in any profession they opt for saying the wage of hard work never go in vain.
Liremo also recalled that Shaki village was once held high with respect in various aspects of life however he lamented that eventually it was observed that “weaknesses has overshadowed all the blessings of God”.
He urged the people to leave all differences aside and march ahead together saying changes begins from an individual and blessings could come to those village that has peace and understand.
Jubilee guest, advisor treasuries and accounts, relief and rehabilitation Dr. T. M Lotha congratulated SSU for attaining 50 years and wished that all blessings experienced in the past be showered back with the celebration of the golden jubilee.
The advisor also mentioned that Shaki village was once known for its stronghold on religion, wealth, education and on various other fields, beyond the other villages in Lotha community. However he lamented that this has been fading slowly and said “fear of God” was shaken.
He urged the villagers to rebuild the strong foundation with God and in due course, retrospect where things was gone wrong.
Asserting that white collared jobs was beyond saturation point, he asked the students community to be more sincere and dedicated and to have competitive spirit.
Theme speaker, associate professor, Er. Nzanthung Ngullie in his address said Lothas have become too lazy, depending too much on others and said Lothas are sliding down on many fields. The associate professor also urged the people to put God first in their life and to move forward in unity and understanding.
LSU president, Amos Odyuo and WRSU president Robin Tungoe also delivered greetings on the occasion. The programme was marked by song, release of souvenir by chief guest.
Earlier the first president of SSU A. Jonah Khuvung unfurled the SSU flag. Senior government official, various students’ organization from neighbouring and other villages, village councils, churches and others attended the celebration.
