Second ‘Sümi Martyr’s Day 2015 cum Solidarity Concert’ was held in Zunheboto under the aegis of Sümi Hoho on Monday. Several thousand people thronged Zunheboto town and paid homage to the three “Sümi Martyrs” who fought and sacrificed their lives for the pride and dignity of Sülimi (Sümi woman) during the infamous “Mukalimi Siege”. The programme, chaired by Sümi Hoho vice president H. Khehoshe Yeptho, began with a “moment of silence” in remembrance of the “fallen heroes” followed by invocation prayer by Rev Henito Kiba. Short speeches were delivered by Sümi Hoho president Toniho Yeptho and the mother of martyr late Nipulo Chishi.
At the wreath laying ceremony, Sümi Hoho, SKH, SKK, STH, SOUN (Z), ZTYO, ZRSU, OTYF, Churches and several others paid floral tributes to the martyrs. Prayers for the families of victims, host Sukhalu village, land donors and Sumi Hoho also took place. Sukhalu village Baptist church pastor offered a benediction.
Earlier, Sümi apex bodies, NGOs, churches and families of the martyrs led by Sümi Hoho held a brief service at Sümi Martyrs Park, Sukhalu, where they paid tribute. Meanwhile, to mark the occasion, a “solidarity concert” was also held at Main Police point, Zunheboto.
