ICAR conducts ‘natural resource conservation trg’

Four-day training on “conservation of natural resource and its efficient utilization for sustaining hill agriculture” was organized by ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Jharnapani Medziphema under the Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) project from January 27 to 30.
Director, ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Dr. Abhijit Mitra graced the occasion as chief guest and he also released a book on natural resource conservation edited by Sanjay Kumar Ray. 
In his address, Dr. Mitra expressed that natural resource conservation was the need of hour and if “we” don’t do it now then future generation would accuse us.
He advised the farmers to use the natural resource judiciously and to adopt the scientific methods of cultivation practices. Dr. Mitra also lamented that Hornbill festival is being celebrated in Nagaland but no hornbills are found nowadays.
Dr. Sanjay Kumar Ray gave an overview of the training programme and the main aims and objective of the training. Lectures on the topics natural resource conservation, integrated farming systems, water budgeting, rainwater harvesting, techniques of soil and water conservation, protected cultivation, restoration of degradation of land soil testing, nutrient recycling, pruning training and canopy management, green manuring mulching, organic farming, seed priming, multiple water utilization techniques and community based natural resource management were delivered.
During the training programme films were shown on scientific integrated fish rearing, scientific soil and water conservation, low cost drip irrigation and rainwater harvesting through ferro cement tank structure in hill agriculture was shown.
In the valedictory programme, joint director (i/c), Dr. Anamika Sharma and programme coordinator, KVK, Dimapur appealed the farmers to protect the soil from excess depletion of nutrients and timely harvesting of their produce for good market value.  
Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by Dr. P. Chowdhury, vote of thanks by Dr. Manoj Kumar, joint director (i/c), ICAR, Jharnapani Dr. Anamika Sharma welcomed the house and stressed on practical oriented hands on training and entrepreneurship development.
Altogether 21 farmers and rural youth from Longleng, Wokha, Ralan, Chumukdema and Dimapur attended the training.
