NSCN (K) rejects AR charge over ‘narco-terrorism’

NSCN (K) has rejected the allegation of IGAR (N) that it was involved in “narco-terrorism” and sought to clarify the allegation for public consumption.
Talking to Nagaland Post over phone, NSCN (K) PRO ‘col’ Isak Sumi said the inhabitants of Chindwin Valley, both Nagas and non-Nagas, had for ages been tending poppy garden more or less as a tradition using the produced as a medicine to fight tropical malaria that claimed hundreds of life each year.
PRO claimed that with the “judicious intervention” of group enabling inflow of modern medicines, establishments of medical centres and schools, introduction and encouragement of paddy and other food crop cultivation, now poppy cultivation has been reduced drastically each year.
He claimed that in a few years time poppy cultivation was targeted to be “wiped out completely” from the valley. NSCN (K) PRO urged “every sympathetic” Naga to extend necessary assistance towards achieving the goal.

When asked to comment on the formation of a new political organisation — Eastern Naga National Government (ENNG), NSCN (K) PRO said the group had nothing to comment on the formation, saying it was still in the initial stage and was “yet to know about their ideology”.
On recent approach by Naga Hoho and ENPO to meet NSCN (K) leaders, Isak said they were told that representatives from organisations travelled till Mandalay but had to return due to “passport issue”. Though NSCN (K) leaders could not meet the representatives, PRO said the group has no reservations to meet them, adding that they were welcome.
