Cong MLAs failed to uphold party principles: K. Therie

Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) president K. Therie has asserted that the imbroglio involving the eight Congress MLAs arose as they failed to uphold the party’s social, secular and democratic principles and ideologies.
Addressing a public gathering as part of ongoing NPCC mass contact tour programme at Meluri town in Phek on Friday, Therie said despite party affirming it cannot be a partner with BJP because of opposing ideologies and principles, the eight Congress MLA ignored the directives of the AICC and joined NPF-led BJP-DAN government.
According to Media Cell, Therie said 60 MLAs in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly have come together citing the Naga Issue, but added that they could however come together only for 30 minutes, refereeing to the winter session of the 12th NLA that was adjourned sine die by the Assembly Speaker after sitting for 30 minutes.
NPCC president said during the 60 years of Congress rule, the nation had never been divided on the basis of religion, caste, tribe and food, the way it was today.
He alleged that during BJP rule Churches were burnt down, Christians were persecuted and temples were built in place of Churches.
Stating that the people had given their mandate and voted the NPF to power, Therie, howver, said the reward the people received was no roads, no power, no water, no infrastructure and successive deficit budgets.
Highlighting NPCC Roadmap, Therie dwelt on various welfare schemes and development plans.
He called upon the people to read the roadmap, adding that if they wanted change they join hands with the Congress and march forward.
Asserting that the party was willing to work with like-minded people for a common future, Therie appealed to the all reverends, pastors and intellectuals to educate the masses so that God-fearing leaders were elected in the future.
Other NPCC officials who addressed the gatherings included vice president V. Lasuh, secretary Moa Imchen, general secretary Yona Konyak, secretary Athang Chongloi and secretary Pfüche Koza.
