To discuss various problems faced by the tribal community in tribal areas, including people in non scheduled areas and particularly the tea growers and to discuss the upcoming Assam state assembly general election, BJP Morcha North East held a meeting at Hotel Saramati, Dimapur, Friday.
During the meeting, ST Morcha national vice president and in-charge of North East states & Goa, Johny G. Regma called upon the people of Assam to join hands and support BJP candidate under the leadership of Narendra Modi in the assemble election. He also maintained that BJP would also depute campaign members from all tribal states to the tribal constituency in Assam.
He further hoped that August 3, Framework Agreement signed by government of India and NSCN (I-M) would address the Naga political issue as desired by the Naga people, without hurting the interest of the neighboring states.
BJP, Assam state esteem Morcha president, Joy Ram Engleng also extended full confidence that BJP along with east alliance partner would form the next government and hoped that tribal community would be able to be part of the government for the benefit of the community.
He also hoped after the coming of BJP, Act East policy programme would work properly and other developmental programme would be adopted for the welfare of the North east in general.
Meanwhile, BJP scheduled tribe Morcha Manipur Pradesh, president, K.S. Khaie Leo was hopeful that Act East policy of would user in more developmental activities in the region.
He suggested urging upon the competent authority to have separate office for schedule tribe Morcha in the state, as well as in the district with separate financial head for BJP state ST so as to work independently and smoothly for the party.
Leo also asked the party members to pursue the authority to appoint one member from among the NE state to represent in the national commission for schedule tribes, government of India, to appoint one member each in the department of tribal affairs in NE from schedule tribe Morcha members and to increase the assembly seats in NE states for equal representation in law making body.
He also urged the central government to set up residential schools in every district of NE and further suggested that any non-scheduled tribe seeking for conversion into schedule tribe status should be strongly objected. Later, vote of thanks was delivered by BJP, NE co-ordination committee (ST/SC cell) convener Vezokho Chotso.
