Objecting to the proposal to create a separate sub-division for the existing Peren town, the Peren Council (PC), apex body of the entire Peren community, has asserted that it was the “united desire” of the Peren people to remain as one family under one administration.
The council cautioned that any attempt to create any new sub-division within its jurisdiction without its consent “will not be accepted at this juncture.”
Peren council, which held its maiden interaction with the district administration Peren January 5, 2016 at the district headquarters complex after its reorganisation, said it submitted a representation to the state government conveying some important points.
In a press release, Peren council president Gumchu, secretary Dr. Ndangkie Ndang, vice president Hairagum Hega, treasurer Dr. Zieleigai Ndang and executive members Hiareuzinbe Hegui, Haisobi Hega and Namnabi Hegui and advisor Amang Sephe said the Peren villages (Old Peren, New Peren and Kezjanglwa) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the government of Nagaland for extension and expansion of the existing town.
On the nomenclature of the Peren headquarters complex, the council pointed out that very often, the government in its official correspondences, “erroneously” mentions headquarters complex as the New Peren Headquarters complex, adding that this was creating confusion in the minds of the people because New Peren as a village was already in existence.
Therefore, the council stated that henceforth, for all official purposes, the model township area be called as headquarters complex/D.C complex Peren town and not otherwise.
On the need to protect and preserve government properties, the council referred to Peren Village Council (PVC) letter to the government dated September 29, 2015 and stated some individuals were trying to forcibly encroach the government land.
It stated that certain structures of the government buildings and staff quarters were being dismantled and taken away by unscrupulous persons and also some quarters were illegally occupied by undeserving persons.
Stating that they gave their valuable land for developmental purposes, Peren council said if the government cannot protect its land and properties, the land donor (Peren community) would take possession of all the land donated to the government including the government establishments and quarters of Peren town.
The council also stated that any attempt to issue patta/permit to any individual by the government against the government land would not be tolerated at any cost.
The Peren Council further demanded that in case any land pattas/permit was issued by the government to the private individuals or organisation, such should be revoked immediately otherwise they would be compelled to resort to appropriate action “to protect our land and our rights.”
