Mao Union Kohima (MUK) and Mao Students’ Union Kohima (MSUK) jointly organized a felicitation programme for successful students of HSLC and HSSLC & conferment of Ashikho Daili trust award for Academic Excellence (ADTAFAE) for HSLC topper. The programme was held at Modern Institute of Teacher Education (MITE), A.G. Road Kohima on Sunday.
President Mao Council, Peter Khrasi IRS (Rtd.), in his address, challenged the toppers and successful students to do even better in future saying that one has to keep striving to achieve in life. He stressed on the need of maintaining good health to enable them to work hard to be successful people. He cautioned the students that modern technology should not diminish their desire to achieve something.
He further encouraged the students saying that whoever shines in their studies would find the right job either in the government or private sectors. According to him the excuse that the present generation had too many educated people and thus had become jobless was a cowardly statement. He advised the students to take firm and strong personal decisions without the influence of others.
Managing director Modern College & MITE, Pelee Hekha, in his exhortation said anyone who does not give up and keep striving by overcoming different obstacles with a positive mindset would become successful and an achiever.
Esther Chakre, top 6 (Arts) HSSLC, in her address said determination was the key to success and she explained that the need was quality and not quantity of study hours. She attributed her success to God, teachers and family members. Asiisa Liriina, top 20th HSLC, also addressed the gathering.
Member secretary ADTAFAE James Athikho in his report of ADTAFAE said the trust award was established in 2005 for the toppers of HSLC candidates and till date 13th toppers had been awarded since it was established.
The programme was led by Ashuni Sapriina, invocation prayer was said by pastor Mao Baptist church Kohima, Rev. K. Losii, welcome address was delivered by president MUK, Loli Athikho Lirute, introduction and presentation by asst. GS MUK, K. Besii. A special song was presented by Kayia and Peeho, a speech on behalf of the successful students’ parents was given by H. Choro, member ADTAFAE, vote of thanks was proposed by Akha Losii president MSUK and the benediction prayer was said by Dr. Losii member ADTAFAE.
Patron ADTAFAE Ashikho Daili also exhorted the gathering and gave away the ADTAFAE award and citation to Asiisa Liriina. Esther Chakre was felicitated by the organizers and Mao A.G. office staff with a cash award. All the successful candidates were also felicitated by the organizers.
