An awareness programme on Clean Chumukedima Town was held on Thursday at Chumukedima Town Council Conference Hall with Swachh Bharat Ambassador Dimapur and Editor Nagaland Post Geoffrey Yaden as the chief guest. Addressing the gathering, the chief guest called upon the denizens of Chumukedima to practice cleanliness drive responsibility on a daily basis.
While describing Chumukedima as a tribally cosmopolitan town, he said that Swachh Bharat is voluntary mission which he said is a challenge for all concern citizens.
Pointing out that the people rely only on the government for all matter which is why development has stopped, Yaden said mission such as Swachh Bharat should be developed with a voluntary participation. He also questioned individuals on their dependence on the government even for matter of cleanliness and he urged the gathering to inculcate awareness on such matters.
Yaden also suggested putting up public toilets so that people can have easy access thus maintaining clean environment and experience a new beginning.
Delivering speech on behalf of senior citizens retired DG (Prisons) Nagaland Thechamo Ezung IPS stated Swachh Bharat a big vision for the country by India’s Prime Minister.
Through this vision, he said, India is marching towards a developed India. Acknowledging cleanliness as a big responsibility, Ezung appealed the citizens to extend a helping hand to the government. “Government alone cannot do all things without the indisputable support from the public”, he added.
On the occasion, Swachh Bharat Mission Quiz winners were rewarded with cash prizes and citation. Government Higher Secondary School Chumukedima emerged as the winner with St. Joseph Higher Secondary School and North Town Higher Secondary School receiving the 2nd and 3rd position.
Earlier, God’s blessing was invoked by Pochury Baptist Church Chumu Pastor Hopejoy and welcome address was delivered by EAC Chumukedima and Administrator Chumukedima Tribal Council (CTC) Thungbemo Patton.
