KDFA fetes KDVFA for winning Inter-District Veteran Football title

Kohima District Football Association (KDFA) hosted a felicitation event to honor the Kohima District Veteran Football Association (KDVFA) for winning the 12th Nagaland Inter-District Veteran Football Tournament.
This year’s tournament was held at Mhainamtsi village, Jalukie, under the Nagaland Veteran Football Association (NVFA), with the theme “Legends Never Retire.” In the final match, KDVFA defeated Dimapur District Veteran Football Association (DDVFA) 2-0.
KDVFA president Kevingutuo (Kutu) Sekhose expressed gratitude to KDFA for organizing the felicitation and continuously supporting veteran football. He highlighted teamwork and commitment as key factors behind the victory. Sekhose appreciated veterans and well-wishers for their support and praised the team’s dedication in winning the NVFA trophy for the first time. He urged senior members present at the event to guide upcoming players.
NVFA president Anthony Ngullie, Commissioner and Secretary for Youth Resources and Sports, acknowledged the efforts of former NVFA president and retired DGP Nagaland, K Kire, in laying the foundation for veteran football. Ngullie encouraged younger players to maintain fitness and uphold the legacy of senior footballers.
Former NVFA president K Kire shared the origins of veteran football in Nagaland, stating that it was created to keep older players engaged and fit. He recalled the introduction of an age verification rule requiring players to be at least 45 years old. Kire praised KDVFA’s discipline and suggested bringing in younger players to sustain veteran football. He also recommended establishing a fund to help underprivileged football talents.
Former KDVFA president Dr Nicky Kire proposed regular practice sessions to maintain fitness and competitiveness. Team physiotherapist Dr Viketoulie Pienyü highlighted the importance of staying active, especially for older individuals, citing K Kire as an inspiring example.
Nagaland Football Association president K Neibou Sekhose congratulated the KDVFA team and commended KDFA for recognizing the veterans’ achievement. He stressed the importance of discipline and integrity in football and encouraged veterans to contribute to the sport’s development.
KDFA president M Matthew Yhome shared his experience representing India in the Masters Games in Taiwan and urged efforts to support sports across all age groups.
