
North East Initiative Development Agency (NEIDA) Kohima has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) for joint venture in Water Supply and Sanitation (WATSAN) works in Nagaland.
MoU was signed by joint secretary PHED and executive director NEIDA Dharani Ratno for a period of five years.
The memorandum was signed to create a healthy future for rural communities through improved access to safe, assured and adequate drinking water and improve environmental sanitation.
Joint secretary PHED Akumla Chuba said a State Level Steering Committee (SLSC) would be constituted to review the progress of the programme and provide direction for future course of action. SLSC would also jointly review the progress and would meet once in every six months. She also said District Level Coordination Committees (DLCC) comprising representatives from the PHED, NEIDA and local implementing partner, will also form to monitor the developmental works. Further, Chuba said the committees will be under the chairmanship of the concerned Executive Engineer.
Executive director NEIDA Dharani Ratno said the Trusts have started working on WATSAN in Nagaland and NEIDA under Tata Water Mission has been implementing a pilot project with its implementing partner ECS in Noksen block, Tuensang district.
He also revealed that there was a demand for WATSAN projects across Nagaland and the communities were keen to contributing for and taking ownership of the project for betterment.
Accounts and administration team informed that PHED and NEIDA will implement this programme jointly which would benefit 10,000 households located in Tuensang, Kiphire and Phek districts. For more information one may visit http://tatatrusts.org/.
