DC seeks cooperation for clean Kohima

As all-out efforts are on for improvement of cleanliness and sanitation by all concerned including improvement of roads, the deputy commissioner (DC) Kohima Ruovilatuo Mor has called for drastic measures and revolutionary response from every agency and citizen for transformation into a clean, beautiful, healthy place, befitting the State capital.
According to a DIPR report, the DC stated that the essence of much expected Smart City would never be achieved without concerted efforts of everyone.
Therefore, DC has appealed to everyone for cooperation and adherence to the following guidelines to reduce dust/mud, sustain the road in the interest of public with immediate effect:
1. Avoid damage of road surface by direct unloading of stones, fire woods, bricks or any heavy materials, but to be done so by passing.
2. Avoid soiling of the road by direct unloading of cement, sand, bricks, chippings, stone dusts, excavated earth on the road, but plastic/turpolin should be laid on the bed to prevent particles of such materials spreading out on the road surface.
3. Random excavation of the road surface to be avoided under any circumstances.
4. Any earth excavation on the road side or above should be ensured not to spill over the road/drains.
5. Direct channelling of drain waters into the road should never be done which only accelerates road damage.
6. Blockage of drains/encroachment, damage or alteration of alignment and alleviation of public road should be strictly avoided during construction of private approach road/structures.
7. Throwing of garbage/waste materials etc into the drains should be strictly avoided.
8. Particularly the road maintenance agencies should ensure timely repair of potholes throughout the year, since a stitch in time always saves nine. Also be vigilant on management of water ways during rainy seasons.
Further, DC underlined that a conscientious action and restraints could only bring changes to “our horrific status of sanitation and road conditions, otherwise we will remain the same in blame game.”
DC on traffic regulations
In view of the forthcoming Hornbill Festival and the Christmas Festival season, all efforts are on full swing for improvement of roads in Kohima by all concerned. However, due to heavy vehicular traffic coupled with narrow and absence of diversion routes and lack of traffic disciplines, the citizens are subjected to untold traffic jams daily.
According to a DIPR report, DC Kohima, Ruovilatuo Mor in connection with this has issued directives for strict compliance of traffic regulations.
All responsible have been directed to remove all off-road vehicles parked on the public road immediately as per earlier directives. It has also been informed to avoid dumping of construction or any bulk materials on the public road (except for road construction). As per the directives, even to remove unavoidable dumping within 24 hrs and any storage beyond shall be subject to administrative permission after physical verification of genuine necessity.
