NCSU appeals GoI to postpone tender dates

Nagaland Contractors’ and Suppliers’ Union (NCSU) has appealed to the Government of India to postpone the tender calendar dates for four-laning of Dimapur-Kohima and change modalities in awarding contract works.
In a representation to the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, the NCSU president Pele Khezhie and general secretary John Kath stated that currently the local contractors did not possess the requisite criteria to fulfil or qualify the said tender of a huge project.
It demanded that the project be given in break-up into job-wise in more packages with pre-qualification model in order to accommodate the local Naga contractors.
NCSU said its demand was in reference with the existing practice prevailing under SARDP-NE in the state of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh making break-up in awarding woks. The union said the same provision should be allowed to the state of Nagaland.
Maintaining that it did not want the four-laning project to face same fate of two-laning roads project in Nagaland under SARDP-NE, which remained abandoned till date, the NCSU therefore requested the minister to keep in abeyance the tender calendar dates fixed on 06-11-2015, 17.00 for bid submission closing date and 09.11.2015, 12.00 for technical bid opening till alternate arrangement was made.
Meanwhile, reminding the minister of his assurance to accommodate local contractors in awarding works in the ongoing projects in the region, the union, however, said his commitment has not been materialized in view of the present Notice Inviting Tenders (NIT) for four-laning of Dimapur-Kohima road.
