Rose Mary Mero wins 10th Inter-collegiate debate

Rose Mary Mero of Pfutsuro Government College emerged as the winner of the “10th Inter-collegiate debate competition” held on the topic “motion: Naga sovereignty is a myth” at Sazolie college, Saturday. Altogether 22 students representing various colleges in Nagaland participated in the debate competition.
Speaking as a critic of the debate, chairman Kohima Educational Society, Dr. Phyobemo Ngully opined that whether Naga sovereignty is a myth or not is a “conflicting situation”. He said that Nagas “owe” their forefathers for their decisions and sacrifices to achieve an independent nation and grateful for the “overwhelming generosity” of the Government of India towards Nagaland. He however said that Nagas must not to be carried away by the “generosity”. Delivering the welcome speech, principal Sazolie College, Dr. Kangzangding Thou said that the debate competition was organized to spread awareness and teach students about the art of debate.
The judges for the debate were Vice- President Western Angami Public Organisation, Neivikuolie Khatsü, Revenue Officer Kohima, TL Kiusumong Tikhir and Assistant Professor KSC, Dr. Seyiekhrielie Whiso. Motion emerged as the winning team, Kaka Lotha of Patkai Christian College secured second position and Aseno Terhuja of Kohima College secured third position.
Consolation prizes were also given to Krosüh Hiesüh of Sazolie College, Sapulu Krocha of Model Christian College, Anguto Sumi of Japfu Christian College, Erina of Clark Theological College and Vinoka Lotha of Modern college. The moderator of the debate was Assistant Professor Department of English, Rokovino. The gathering was enthralled through special number by Kevinguno Thoü, Viphtünü and Myanbeni Kikon, vote of thanks was delivered by Convener Inter College Debate Committee, Nzanthung Kikon. The programme was chaired by Assistant Professor Department of English Vasundhara.
