In what claimed to be a major a break through, Dimapur police on September 29 arrested a gang of vehicle lifters from various locations in Dimapur, said additional commissioner of police in a press statement.
In the first incident, five persons have been arrested and a black coloured Scorpio recovered at Showuba police out post, Dimapur. The arrested have been identified as Ramesh Murshe son of Hadu Murshe, Arjun Bahadur son of Jit Bhadur, Robin Rai son of Mohan Rai, Augustine Sangma son of late Adish and Konu Satanmi son of late Sukan Ali. Police said that the vehicle was stolen from 5th Mile Model village, Dimapur by the gang.
Later, the vehicle was handed over to the rightful owner. A case has been registered against the five at Diphupar Police Station, the statement said. On the same day, Dimapur police also arrested three persons and recovered Honda mobilo with a fake registration and documents of Assam.
The trio identified as Samson Yepthomi (30), son of Yekiho Yepthomi, Richie Horam Ramchuichen (35) son of Keneth Horam and Rupam Borah (30) son of late Dabsor Borah, were nabbed while trying to dispose the vehicle. Investigation is in progress, the statement said.
