
Advisor DUDA, DPBD chairman and chief patron of the mission ‘I Love My Mon Town’, Thongwang Konyak launched the mission Friday at Mon.
In his speech, Thongwang Konyak congratulated the team of government officers headed by the deputy commissioner for initiating the mission for the people of Mon town and he implored the citizens of the town to collectively and tirelessly render service to revive the town for better living.
Guest of honour, Swachh Bharat mission Ambassador of Mon Supongmeren Jamir, lauded the initiative for taking up such a mission and expressed his sincere wish that the vision of the mission disseminates beyond the town. He also briefed on the objective of the Swachh Bharat mission, infection control and proper waste management system to control diseases.
Deputy Commissioner, Mon and the mission director, W. Honje Konyak in his keynote address stressed the need for mass community participation for a clean, healthy, well maintained town intended to be approached through the mode ILMMT.
He outlined the need to instil a sense of responsibility and ownership in the minds of the citizens and to educate the civil society on basic civic duties. Konyak urged the civil society to be committed to co-operate as well as mobilise available man power and existing resources to the best and possible extent.
Citing that the success and failure of the mission will largely depend on the responses of the citizens of Mon town, the DC challenged the people to make it a success.
Lt. Col. B.C. Mohan Lal, 2 in-charge 33 AR graced the programme and assured to aid the people of Mon town through human and material resources.
Mission Ambassador I Love My Mon Town Samuel Konyak, presented a special number while Wanmei Walim of Sacred heart School delivered a poem which was a prayer to “build a Mon town which is clean, green, pleasant, healthy and happy for the growing generation which they can call their own.”
A street play was also performed by students of Model School along with youth groups on the essence of the Mission: I Love My Mon Town. As part of the program a painting competition was also held at Angjong Higher Secondary School where students from various schools took part.
I Love My Mon Town, is the initiative of the district administration to make Mon town a clean, healthy, systematic, well maintained and developed town through the active support and participation of the citizen.
The Mission is in line with the Swachh Bjarat Abhiyan and aims to achieve its goal.
Through this mission Mon town joins the rest of the nation in striving towards a clean India. The program was chaired by M.A. Shihab (IAS), ADC Mon. The program concluded with mass cleanliness drive in and around the venue area
