First Naga woman IAS honoured

Retired Chief Secretary of Nagaland, Banuo Z Jamir, the first woman to be inducted in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), was awarded the prestigious award, Classic Club Award 2015 Friday at De. Oriental Grand, Kohima.
She was given the award for her, “exemplified integrity, unequivocal, commitment and outstanding leadership” throughout her career as an administrator of the highest level by the Classic Club. 
The occasion coincided with the foundation day of the Classic Club.
Born in 1954, Banuo Z. Jamir cleared UPSC and qualified for IPS in 1976. However, she re-appeared the exam and was selected for IAS in 1977 and allotted the Nagaland cadre. She started her career as undersecretary land revenue in 1979. 
Banuo also served in different capacities before becoming the first woman chief secretary in February 2014 and retired in September 2014.
State governor, P.B Acharya, who graced the occasion as chief guest, acknowledged Classic Club for identifying, motivating, educating and sponsoring many events. He said the club was an organization inspired to strengthen the society and Nagaland.
She also congratulated Banuo for setting an exemplifying inspiration to the future generation. 
In her acceptance speech, Banuo a congratulated Classic Club for the wonderful service rendered to the Nagas for the last 21 years. 
Banuo also acknowledged her husband Rtd IAS Alemtemshi, whom she described him as a friend and mentor. She said her husband demonstrated publicly by voluntarily giving up the chair of chief secretary, so that she had the opportunity to occupy it. 
The citation carried a cash of Rs. 25,000 and a citation.
Family members of the awardee, NMA officials, Classic Club officials and others attended the award ceremony.
